Our Team

  • Thomas Doeling- Director

From the first moment I drove into Bear Trap Ranch (BTR) for an Intervarsity Christian Fellowship (IVCF) retreat at the age of 20 I fell in love with BTR. The next year, I quit my job, skipped a couple of quarters of school and served at BTR working for then director Dave Swanson. He put me to work managing the kitchen operation, shoeing horses, and any other job that needed to be done. Post Graduation, I came back to BTR to serve as Wrangler. Later in life, my family and I attended BTR family camps.

Throughout my working career in aerospace, Silicon Valley, and aeroderivative power plant work I always had a heart for BTR. Occasionally, during my working career I would envision myself working as director. I used to laugh at myself for such thoughts but those thoughts would never leave me. A few years ago I found myself looking the BTR website. BTR needed a chef / kitchen manager. Director Keith Roy hired me for the role. I’m a foodie and I loved the job. When the most recent director resigned I knew my time had come. Matt Dealy asked if I would consider directing BTR. I knew it to be right as rain. I consider all the decades long history in aerospace engineering, sales, marketing, partnership development, product development and launches, and people skills development as God’s way of preparing me for this most important ministry position in service of BTR. So here I am 46 years later from when I first crested the entrance to BTR and I’m still in love with BTR and what it represents to the decades of people who’ve gone before me and to those who will come after.
